Sustainability is beginning to take its place on the podium next to bronze, silver and gold in the Olympics, as scrutiny of the event’s environmental impact has grown over the years.
In this interview, Shaun McCarthy, Chair of the Commission for a Sustainable Olympics 2012, shares his first-hand impressions of the sustainable features of the Beijing Olympics and explores how London can do better in 2012.
He balances the negative aspects with positive examples of innovation, including the Water Cube aquatic centre which transmits body heat from spectator’s seats to heat the pool.
